How to Get to Chongshan Street Mosque
By Bus: Bus No. 21; 22. Get off at Shaoniangong Station
Chongshan Street Mosque is the largest mosque in Guilin. Chongshan Street Mosque was built in 1735, the 13th year of Qing Emperor Yongzheng’s reign, expanded in 1849, the 14th year of Qing Emperor Jiaqing’s reign, and experienced renovation during the reign of Qing Emperor Daoguang (1821-1850) and during the Republic of China (1912-1949).
At present, Chongshan Street Mosque covers an area of 2000 square meters, as the best preserved mosque with the largest scale in Guilin. Chongshan Street Mosque was constructed with the mix of Chinese and Islamic architecture. The mosque consists of the main prayer hall, lecture hall; ablution room etc. 24 red pillars surround the prayer hall, making it simple but solemn.
The prayer hall of Chongshan Street Mosque is very spacious, with 12 red wooden pillars orderly arranged. An octagonal dome stands above the prayer hall, and beautiful relief of Quran is painted on the wall of the prayer hall.
Chongshan Street Mosque is considered an important historic and cultural site under protection. In 1982, President of Pakistan came to this mosque to perform Jumah prayer, and presented a full set of Koran cassette and recorders to the mosque. He even planted four trees in front of the gate himself, to pray for the everlasting friendship of Muslims and people of the whole nation between China and Pakistan.
