Day 3 Bullet Train to Dali, Dali Old Town

Take a bullet train to Dali (approximately 2.5 hours). Once the capital of the Nanzhao and Dali Kingdoms (738 – 1253), Dali served as the political, economic, and cultural center of ancient Yunnan for over 500 years. Following Salat at Dali Nanmen Mosque, immerse yourself in the enduring allure and history of Dali Old Town, nestled between the serene Erhai Lake and the majestic Cangshan Mountains. Wander in the old town, taking in the city gates, ancient towers, old streets, temples, museums, and shops. Day 6 Stone Drum Town, Tiger Leaping Gorge, Bullet Train to Kunming

Destination: Lijiang, Kunming

Embark on a scenic drive to the Stone Drum Town (approx. 50 km, about 1 hour) where the mighty Yangtze River takes its first bend, forming a strikingly sharp V-shape. Continue the journey for approximately 40 km to reach the Tiger Leaping Gorge, one of the world’s deepest and most spectacular gorges nestled between Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, standing tall at 5596 meters, and the 5396 meter high Haba Snow Mountain. The roaring Yangtze River rushes into the slim valley with a solitary stone at its heart. An old proverb says that the gorge is so narrow that a tiger could leap across the river, giving the gorge its name. Take a bullet train to Kunming (approximately 3.5 hours).

Day 7 Depart Kunming

Know Before You Go
  • Due to the high altitude of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain (5,596 meters), there's a risk of altitude sickness. Symptoms include headache, nausea, dizziness, and fatigue. If you experience any of these, it's crucial to descend immediately.
  • Altitude sickness can affect anyone, regardless of fitness level. As a precaution, consider carrying a portable oxygen canister, available at local supermarkets or the cable car station.
  • Equip with warm clothing and heavy-duty gloves to brave the icy conditions at high altitudes.
  • Eye Protection: A pair of sunglasses is necessary to protect your eyes from ultraviolet rays.
  • Cableways: There are three cableways in Jade Dragon Snow Mountain Scenic Area, running to Glacier Park, Spruce Meadow, and Yak Meadow.
