Explore Mt. Huashan
Mt. Huashan has long been regarded as the most precipitous mountain in China, with sheer granite cliffs and deep valleys. Its pathways are treacherous, winding their way up to narrow ledges on the rock face. Mt. Huashan has been a site of natural abundance and worship for many centuries, possibly millennia. It is one of the five sacred mountains of Taoism and is steeped in legend. The rocks are engraved with tales and poems from its long history, and gods are said to have performed magic there. Emperors have worshiped and sacrificed, and the forefathers of Taoism have set down their religious legacies on the mountain.
After arriving, take a 35-minute bus ride and a 10-minute hike to the cable car station. Ride the cable car for 20 minutes to reach the West Peak (elevation: 2,087 meters). From there, hike for an hour to the South Peak (elevation: 2160 meters). Then, walk for 30 minutes to the “Plank Walk In The Sky”. Continue to hike for 30 minutes to the East Peak (elevation: 2.090 meters) and then to the North Peak (elevation: 1.614 meters) via Golden Lock Pass, Canglongling (Black Dragon Ridge), and Heavenly Ladder. Descend via cable car from the North Peak Cableway Station. The hike is mostly downhill and takes about 5 hours.
