Visit Gulangyu Island
Gulangyu Island, a picturesque retreat just off Xiamen’s coast, boasts stunning beaches, winding lanes, and exquisite Victorian-era architecture. This 2-square-kilometer island served as an international settlement in the early 20th century, leaving behind a legacy of foreign consulates, churches, hospitals, schools, and police stations. Renowned as a former Western residential area, Gulangyu is famous for its architecture and is home to China’s only piano museum, earning it the nickname “Piano Island.” For panoramic views of the island and Xiamen, climb Sunlight Rock. Explore Shuzhuang Garden, with its bamboo forest, caves, and sea-view slopes, and visit the Piano Museum for a fascinating journey through the history and culture of pianos, featuring a collection of over 100 models from around the world.

Located on Xiamen Island’s south coast, the fort overlooks the Taiwan Strait and boasts sweeping port views. Its main attraction is a collection of over 50 iron cannons dating back to the Ming and Qing Dynasties.
